As we step into a new year, one thing remains unchanged at the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation: our commitment to ensuring no one in the Hunter faces breast cancer alone.
While a new year often brings reflection, fresh goals and renewed energy, for many people in our community the reality of breast cancer continues without pause. Appointments still need to be attended, treatment schedules continue and recovery takes time. For those navigating a diagnosis, the calendar turning to January does not change the need for reliable, practical support. It also does not change our focus.
Support that continues beyond the diagnosis
Breast cancer affects far more than physical health. It impacts daily routines, family life, work and the ability to manage everyday tasks that many of us take for granted.
That is why our work centres on providing free, practical support to Hunter locals. Support that helps ease the pressure when energy is low and life feels overwhelming. From transport to treatment, to cleaning and lawn care, to being there when someone simply needs help they can rely on, our services are designed to make life a little easier during a very difficult time.
As a small, local organisation, we are proud to be deeply connected to the Hunter community. The people we support are not just statistics. They are neighbours, colleagues, friends and family members. That local understanding sits at the heart of everything we do.
Reflecting on what makes our work possible
Looking back on the past year, we are reminded that none of this support happens in isolation.
Every service delivered, every trip to treatment and every household supported is made possible through the generosity of our community. Volunteers who give their time, donors who give regularly or when they can, fundraisers who rally their networks and partners who stand alongside us all play a vital role in helping us continue our work.
Their support allows us to respond quickly, compassionately and locally, ensuring help is there when it is needed most.
Looking ahead to 2026
As we move into 2026, we are excited about what lies ahead.
While our mission remains firmly the same, we are continuing to explore new initiatives and improvements that help us better support Hunter locals navigating breast cancer. These plans are shaped by listening to our community and reflecting on how we can strengthen what we already do well.
Throughout the year, our focus will include:
-
Improving how people access and experience support
-
Strengthening the sustainability of our services so we can meet growing demand
-
Supporting our volunteers and community fundraisers who make this work possible
-
Ensuring HBCF remains a trusted, local source of care for years to come
As these initiatives take shape, we look forward to sharing more with our community and bringing people along on the journey with us.
A shared commitment
At its core, HBCF exists because of a shared belief. No one in the Hunter should face breast cancer alone.
As we begin this new year, we want to thank everyone who continues to stand alongside our organisation and the individuals and families we support. Your compassion, generosity and willingness to help make a real difference in the lives of people facing breast cancer every day.
We remain committed to showing up for our community, not just at the start of a new year, but every day that support is needed.
Here is to another year of care, connection and community.
