Free storybooks to help children understand a loved one’s breast cancer journey
We offers free, age-appropriate storybooks designed to help children and young people understand and cope with the experience of a loved one living with breast cancer.
Talking about cancer can be hard for families, especially for children who may not fully understand what is happening. Our children’s books are chosen to help open gentle conversations, promote emotional wellbeing and support families through this challenging time.
Storytelling for children
Books can be a useful tool to assist in explaining a breast cancer diagnosis to kids. HBCF have books to assist Hunter breast cancer clients with young children.
Understanding Author
Our Mummy’s Unexpected News, was written by a former HBCF client who has lived through a breast cancer diagnosis while raising young children. Her personal experience means the story reflects the real questions, fears and emotions that families often face.
Lovingly Illustrated
The warm, thoughtful illustrations support the words on each page, making it easier for children to stay engaged, understand what is happening and feel emotionally supported as they read.
Variety of topics
The book covers a variety of topics split into sections so that it can be read as a whole or split into parts according to where Mum is at in her journey.
Making hard topics easier
From tackling the big question of “what is breast cancer?” to explaining treatments, reactions and hair loss, this book is a comprehensive and easy to understand guide to breast cancer for kids.
