Virginia Rigby Education Assistance Grant

Education Support Grant

Supporting study costs for young people affected by breast cancer

The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation’s Education Assistance Grant provides financial support to eligible Hunter young people whose education has been disrupted by a parent or caregiver’s breast cancer diagnosis.

We recognise that the impact of breast cancer extends beyond the person diagnosed — it can affect the lives, routines and opportunities of their families, particularly school-aged children and young adults. This grant is designed to help ease financial pressure and support continued learning and development.

Flexible grant

The Virginia Rigby Education Grant is intended to be flexible. There is no set figure to be funded and no excessively restrictive rules about how the money is spent – so long as it’s supporting the education of a school aged child whose parent has breast cancer.

Apply when needed

We want to ensure support is available when families need it. This is why there is no open or close dates for applications – simply apply when you need it.

From fees to uniforms

Whether you need assistance with school fees, uniform costs, excursion payments, laptop or school supplies, HBCF is here to provide financial support to ensure a childs eduation does not suffer.

Eligibility

Grants are awarded to children who have a parent that is suffering financial hardship due to breast cancer treatment.

Grants may also be provided to support a school aged child who has had a parent pass away from Breast Cancer.

Application Process

To apply for a grant, you will need to complete an application form outlining your family circumstances, what you are requesting assistance for and the reasons for your request. You will also need to provide a letter of support from your oncologist.
